Unlike those individuals who have chosen to festoon their bodies with images meaningful to no one but themselves – sort of wearing their art on their sleeve, as it were – we choose to let it remain as the Old Master intended, i.e. on his canvas. In this manner, more people can view his work and render an inappropriate interpretation.
The artist whose intentions and abilities we wish to misinterpret today is Diego Velázquez. His work “A Dwarf Holding A Tome On His Lap” requires an appropriately questionable caption, don’t you think?
