The Old Masters – re-interpreted 60

You know, if I hadn’t been watching, I’d swear someone had nicked a few days out of the week. Wednesday returned a little too quickly, but fortunately your humble (but quite vigilant) writer was not playing silly bloggers, and avoided being caught unawares.

This week we set to and lop some chips off the old Bloch – Carl Bloch to be precise, the Danish artist [Fission Chips, chips off the old Bl…… please tell me you get it]. Because Herr Bloch lived from 1834 to 1890 we know the poor fellow is deceased and won’t retaliate to any posthumous pummeling of his noble intentions…. Here then is “In a Roman Osteria” [for those who’d like to know – an osteria is a kind of a cheap Italian restaurant….. and I’m sure we all know more than one cheap Italian].

Maria (centre): "Oh come ON Claudia! Take that serviette off and Giuseppe, put the salad bowl back on the table immediately. Your antics won't make the pizza come any quicker, and we might even get thrown out.

Maria (centre): “Oh come you two!! Claudia, take that serviette off and Giuseppe, put the salad bowl back on the table immediately. Your antics won’t make the pizza come any quicker, and we might even get thrown out”.

Tiddles, the moggy d’hôtel, is also clearly unamused.

About Freud Fission Chips

Despite the banality of the name, FFC has led an intensely varied life. Grateful for surviving almost three years as a 'troepie' (soldier for non-South African Readers) in the Angolan war, he determined to wring as much out of life as possible. Currently providing Business Analysis services, trading on the stock market and developing web pages to pay the bills, FFC also dabbles in wildlife, landscape and people photography, writing, and far too many interests for his own good. He has also travelled extensively in southern Africa (working on the sound theory that a moving target is more dificult to hit). These peregrinations also include over 1500kms on foot through some of the worlds most spectacular scenery. It hasn't all been plain sailing, beer and skittles, and endless beds of roses... Chief amongst the prerequisites for surviving Africa, with its mind-bending characteristics, is an appropriate sense of humour.... So, for now, he will be recounting the amusing among the annoying, the frustrating wrapped in the funny and extracting the mirth from the melancholy... Oh yes, there might be some alliteration too.
