Another blockbuster movie to be made in Johannesburg?

Planet of the Apes remake

The good burghers of Johannesburg, South Africa are being warned to stay clear of the central business district. Unconfirmed reports are coming in that Hollywood is doing a remake of The Planet Of The Apes.

Your relentless news mongrel hound can confirm that the Jane Goodall Foundation is definitely NOT making a sequel documentary on gorillas – called Primates In The Pollution.

One eyewitness, who watched a TV cameraman receive a half-brick to the head, was heard to mutter, “Evolution? What evolution?”

In related news; a group of general practitioners who have attended to the ANC leadership’s medical matters for the past 20 years and who have recently been made redundant, have recorded their dissatisfaction “in the strongest possible terms”. A spokesman for the party advised the press that this task has now been handed over to a team of proctologists who are eminently more qualified for the job.

Stay tuned for more up-to-the-minute drivel.

About Freud Fission Chips

Despite the banality of the name, FFC has led an intensely varied life. Grateful for surviving almost three years as a 'troepie' (soldier for non-South African Readers) in the Angolan war, he determined to wring as much out of life as possible. Currently providing Business Analysis services, trading on the stock market and developing web pages to pay the bills, FFC also dabbles in wildlife, landscape and people photography, writing, and far too many interests for his own good. He has also travelled extensively in southern Africa (working on the sound theory that a moving target is more dificult to hit). These peregrinations also include over 1500kms on foot through some of the worlds most spectacular scenery. It hasn't all been plain sailing, beer and skittles, and endless beds of roses... Chief amongst the prerequisites for surviving Africa, with its mind-bending characteristics, is an appropriate sense of humour.... So, for now, he will be recounting the amusing among the annoying, the frustrating wrapped in the funny and extracting the mirth from the melancholy... Oh yes, there might be some alliteration too.

    • Ah, bless you love. It’s always good to hear from seriously intelligent readers 🙂

On a more sombre note. Recent history is revealing that the comings (if you’ll pardon the ambiguity) and goings of African leadership and the peoples of this continent, are attracting no more than a passing interest. To substantiate this assertion, I will refer you to the wholesale destruction of the oil-rich Niger Delta and the resultant illness and deaths of thousands of people, animals and vegetaion which has gone ‘unnoticed’ by the rest of the world.

Foreigners, whether for political expediency, economic gain or simply to enjoy the view from the (very shakey) moral high ground, express momentary and ineffectual outrage. But the chaos, ethnic cleansing, genocide, corruption and other horrific travesties continue to grow apace.

It is interesting to note that when the previous governments of the two most powerful nations in sub-saharan Africa (South Africa and Rhodesia) were in power, the rest of the world fell over themselves to implement punitive measures, including sanctions, moral condemnation, political and economic exclusion and direct military intervention…. Now, when the same racism and oppression is blatantly applied in reverse and crimes considerably more savage and shameful are committed on the people and the environment – those same elements who raced to take action, are suspiciously silent and indolent.

To me, this is overwhelming evidence and proof that the foreign agenda had far more to do with access to Africa’s natural resources through destabilisation of its power base, than it ever had to do with the much vaunted racial issues.
